Full Time
Ready to rediscover your passion for veterinary medicine? Join a small animal practice where 20-minute appointments, generous admin time, and a supportive team mean you can actually deliver excellent care without burning out.

About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time position at Briar Dawn Veterinary Centre, a small animal first-opinion practice in Oldham. You’ll be joining a team that prioritises patient care over targets, with structured 20-minute appointments and protected admin time built into the working day. This ensures you have the space to manage cases thoroughly and maintain your own wellbeing.

Based in a well-equipped practice with modern facilities, you’ll work alongside vets, nurses, PCAs and receptionists who genuinely collaborate. The team actively encourages you to pursue clinical interests—whether medical or surgical—and you’ll have access to referral-level equipment and strong relationships with local referral centres for complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-opinion small animal veterinary care, managing medical and surgical cases with clinical autonomy
  • Lead diagnostic investigations using the practice’s range of equipment: digital radiography, ultrasound with cardiac and abdominal probes, endoscopy, bronchoscopy and rhinoscopy
  • Perform surgical procedures including dental work, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery using electro-cautery and TTA kits
  • Build continuity of care by developing long-term relationships with clients and their animals
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to support colleagues and contribute to best-practice culture
  • Liaise with local referral specialists and seek guidance from the Advanced Clinical Services Network when needed
  • Mentor and support nursing and support staff in delivering excellent patient care

Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with relevant clinical experience
  • Confident in surgical and medical case management and diagnostic techniques
  • Strong client communication skills and commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care
  • Willingness to develop further clinical expertise and pursue areas of professional interest
  • Team player who thrives in a collaborative, supportive environment
  • Experience level: Senior or experienced vet preferred

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £74,000 depending on experience
  • RCVS registration and VDS fees paid in full
  • Generous CPD allowance, BSAVA library access, and 450+ online courses included
  • Fully funded postgraduate qualifications (CertAVP, PgCert) with tuition, exams and study leave covered
  • Up to 33 days holiday per year with option to buy or sell additional days
  • Relocation package and visa fees covered where applicable
  • Access to Vet Oracle telemedicine specialists and Advanced Clinical Services Network for case support and mentoring
  • Health cash plan and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced family leave policies and Wellbeing Champions network
  • Staff pet care discounts: 50% off services, MiPet food and medications
  • Monthly line-manager check-ins and access to Pastoral Support Vets
