Artificial Insemination Technician

About the Role

You'll be the driving force behind Cogent's Precision Services, delivering high-quality reproduction and breeding support to dairy customers across the region. Reporting to the Precision Services Manager, you'll combine hands-on technical expertise with relationship-building skills, helping farmers achieve their reproductive objectives while utilising state-of-the-art heat detection and herd management systems. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Chester, with access to tailored Cogent Internal Precision Training to build your expertise.

Your day-to-day will involve detecting heats, performing inseminations on cattle, managing fertility data, and liaising with customers, veterinarians, and nutritionists to ensure optimal outcomes. You'll take ownership of herd reports and breeding strategies, turning data into actionable advice that drives real results on farm.

Key Responsibilities

• Detect heats and inseminate cows using professional expertise and animal welfare best practice
• Record observations, inseminations, and compile vet and attention lists for customers
• Utilise both chalk and electronic heat and health monitoring systems to identify cows in heat
• Build and maintain effective customer relationships to deliver a service that meets individual breeding requirements
• Take responsibility for customer fertility data, herd reports, and action planning
• Run an efficient service using Cogent's state-of-the-art heat detection system and whole herd management solution to ensure accurate, timely artificial insemination
• Prepare detailed reports and action plans for customers and your Team Leader
• Liaise with industry professionals including veterinarians and nutritionists to support herd health and fertility goals

Requirements

• Dairy experience and strong knowledge of animal husbandry
• Ability to understand and communicate effectively with farm customers
• Professional and friendly attitude with excellent communication and rapport-building skills
• Highly organised, diligent, self-motivated, and able to overcome challenges
• Proven team player with a can-do attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality service
• Full UK driving licence
