Veterinary Receptionist

About the Role

Haygate Veterinary Centre in Wellington is looking for a Veterinary Receptionist to help keep client care running smoothly at a busy 24-hour small animal hospital. The role is fixed term and full time, with 40 hours worked across 4 or 5 days between 8:00am and 7:00pm, plus 1 in 4 Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive team where the reception team helps create the first impression for clients and their pets. The practice is known for excellent customer service, high-quality patient care and advanced services, including CT imaging facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and arrange appointments efficiently
• Handle queries by phone, email and in person with professionalism
• Welcome and register new clients at reception
• Process insurance forms
• Dispense medications when required
• Take payments accurately and efficiently
• Support clients with empathy during distressing situations
• Use the in-house system to organise patients
• Liaise with other veterinary practices about patient needs and queries
• Make phone calls about debts, belongings and refunds

Requirements

• Previous receptionist experience is essential
• Experience in a veterinary setting is beneficial
• You should be friendly, proactive and client focused
• Strong communication skills and genuine empathy are required
• Good customer service skills and experience working with the public are needed
• You should be positive, organised and able to work well in a team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems is required
• Right to Work in the UK is required, as visa sponsorship is not available for clinical support roles
