Veterinary Patient Care Assistant

About the Role

This is a permanent Veterinary Patient Care Assistant role based at YourVets Veterinary Hospital in Rayleigh, Essex. The contract is for 40 hours per week, worked Monday to Sunday on a varied shift pattern, with the hospital open 24 hours a day.

You’ll be supporting RVNs and vets with day-to-day patient care in a busy first opinion hospital. The role also includes helping at reception when needed, so it will suit someone who is confident with people as well as animals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing support for in-patients
• Assist vets and nurses with animal restraint
• Walk, feed and clean patients
• Prepare emergency and theatre areas
• Carry out general cleaning and maintenance
• Run internal laboratory samples
• Answer emergency calls
• Support reception with appointments and payments when required

Requirements

• Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning and handling, is essential
• Strong customer service and public-facing skills
• Good communication skills
• Empathy, kindness and professionalism when handling emotional situations
• A positive team player approach
• Experience in a veterinary environment is preferred
• Applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this clinical support role
