OOH Veterinary Receptionist

About the Role

CVS Vets 24/7 Chester is hiring a part-time Out of Hours Veterinary Receptionist for a permanent on-site role. The position is 8.5 hours per week, with shifts covering Monday to Friday evenings and a share of the weekend rota.

You’ll be based at Chestergates Veterinary Specialists in Chester, working in a client-facing role that keeps the front desk calm, organised and welcoming during busy out of hours periods. The role is paid at the National Minimum Wage.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and arrange appointments.
• Handle queries by phone, email and in person with professionalism.
• Welcome and register clients at reception.
• Process insurance forms.
• Dispense medications as required.
• Take payments accurately.
• Support clients with empathy during difficult moments.
• Use the in-house system to organise patients.
• Liaise with veterinary practices about patient needs and queries.
• Manage calls relating to debts, belongings and refunds.
• Help ensure clients feel welcomed and valued.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a receptionist or in a demanding, client-focused role is essential.
• Experience in a veterinary setting is a bonus.
• Resilience and the ability to handle emotional situations kindly and professionally.
• Strong communication skills and genuine empathy.
• Good customer service skills and experience working with the public.
• A positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
