Veterinary Patient Care Assistant

About the Role

This fixed term Veterinary Patient Care Assistant role is based at The Crescent Veterinary Centre in Melton Mowbray. It is a full-time post for 40 hours a week, working Monday to Friday between 08.30 and 19.00, with a planned start in December 2026.

You will support RVNs and vets with patient care, while also regularly helping the reception team. The role combines hands-on animal care with front-of-house tasks, so it suits someone who is comfortable moving between clinical support and client service throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients.
• Assist vets and nurses with animal restraint.
• Walk, feed and clean patients.
• Prepare emergency and operating facilities.
• Carry out general cleaning and maintenance.
• Run internal lab samples.
• Answer emergency calls.
• Support reception duties, including booking appointments, answering the telephone, greeting clients and processing payments.

Requirements

• Skills in customer service and public interaction.
• Resilience and the ability to handle emotional situations with kindness and professionalism.
• Strong communication skills and genuine empathy.
• Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning and handling, is essential.
• Experience in a veterinary environment is preferred.
• A positive attitude and a team-focused approach.
• Right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for clinical support roles.
