Maternity Cover Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a full-time maternity cover Veterinary Surgeon role based at Harrow, where you will step into a sole charge GP position and help keep a popular branch running until the end of summer. The post is a 4-day week with 40 hours in total, plus a 1:3 branch Saturday rota and a 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation.

The practice is described as a small but well-managed urban site on a busy high street in northwest London. It is fully equipped for first opinion work, including dental x-ray and multi-parameter monitoring, and you will be supported by an experienced nursing team, a regional manager and a regional head vet.

There are no on-call requirements for this role, and OOH care is provided by Goddard Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt, which also supports complex case referral.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out consultations and make evidence-based treatment and management plans in line with practice protocols.
• Perform surgery where appropriate and within your own competence and the limits of overnight care.
• Prescribe and dispense medicines in line with current legislation and RCVS guidance.
• Keep accurate clinical records and ensure patient histories are complete and useful for colleagues.
• Refer cases promptly when needed, including to a Goddard Veterinary Group hospital first where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively within the branch team and help maintain a respectful working environment.
• Liaise with the RVN to support branch meetings and ensure clinic SOPs are actioned.
• Oversee the consulting and surgical or diagnostic diary in line with company policies.

Requirements

• You must be a competent GP Veterinary Surgeon.
• You must be comfortable working sole charge.
• Experience level is not stated, but the salary is dependent on prior experience.
