Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a sole charge first opinion Veterinary Surgeon position in Ickenham, based at an established community practice in Greater London. The rota is 9am to 5pm, 4 days per week with Wednesdays off, giving you consistent early finishes and weekday evenings back to yourself.

You will be working with a manageable caseload and supported by a long standing team, including Dawn and Alison who have been at the practice for over 20 years. There is also regional support available from a dedicated regional manager and regional head vet, plus the reassurance of Mandeville Hospital in Northolt for more advanced surgery, investigations and overnight hospitalisation.

The location brings a village feel with London access nearby, including the M25 just 10 minutes away and a tube station on the Metropolitan line.

Key Responsibilities

• See consults and make evidence based treatment and management recommendations in line with best practice and GVG protocols.
• Carry out routine surgery within your own competence and the limits of overnight care.
• Prescribe and dispense medication in line with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
• Keep accurate and thorough clinical notes and patient histories.
• Refer cases promptly to a GVG hospital when they cannot be managed in branch.
• Help maintain a respectful, collaborative team environment.
• Work with the RVN to schedule branch meetings and action clinic SOPs.
• Oversee the consulting, surgical and diagnostic diary in line with company policy.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon suitable for a GP first opinion role.
• Comfortable working sole charge.
• Able to manage consultations, routine surgery and clinical admin across the day.
• Willing to refer appropriately and work within personal competence.

Benefits

• Salary band of £60,000 to £90,000 FTE, depending on experience, with the role averaging 35.45 hours per week inclusive of weekend rotation.

The role is with Goddard Vet Group at the Ickenham practice, located at 90 Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB10 8BB. The practice is described as established and community focused, with a strong reputation built over many years.

Mandeville Hospital in Northolt is available for referral support, with CT scanning, imaging support, a strong medical team and experienced surgeons carrying out advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgery on site.
