Senior Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Wanstead Veterinary Hospital is looking for a well-rounded, experienced veterinary surgeon who is ready for the next step into a senior GP position. The role is based in a busy hospital environment and is designed for someone who is client focused, confident in communication and able to help set the tone for the wider GP team.

Your rota runs on a 6 weekly rotational basis and averages 40 hours per week. That includes a 1 in 3 Saturday rotation, a 1 in 6 Sunday rotation, up to 2 bank holidays per year and inclusion on the last resort on-call rota. You will work across consulting, surgery, ward and ECC, with no two days or caseloads the same.

Wanstead itself sits on the outskirts of urban Essex, with easy access to London via a short walk to a Central Line station. The area also offers green space, including the local Bluebell Woods, plus independent restaurants, bakeries, pubs and coffee houses.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the GP hospital team as a senior veterinary surgeon in a large hospital setting.
• Work across consulting, surgery, ward and ECC as part of the rota.
• Help lead and guide GP vets within the hospital team.
• Support the training and development of junior and trainee colleagues.
• Contribute to a client focused service within a high footfall hospital environment.
• Take part in the last resort on-call rota and allocated weekend and bank holiday cover.

Requirements

• Experienced veterinary surgeon, ideally with a hospital background.
• Competent GP vet who is comfortable working in a fast paced hospital environment.
• Client focused with strong client care and communication skills.
• Passionate about training and guiding junior and trainee colleagues.
• Ready to progress into a senior position.

About the Practice

Wanstead Veterinary Hospital provides first opinion, emergency, critical care and referral services to clients and a local network of 20 branches. The hospital has state of the art diagnostic support, including a CT scanner and a commercial laboratory, plus a strong medical team and experienced surgeons carrying out advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgery on site.

The team includes approximately 25 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs and a large front of house team. Support also comes from senior RVNs, 2 deputy head nurses, a head nurse, a head vet and a hospital manager. The practice is part of Goddard Veterinary Group, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2022, has 46 branches, three hospitals and its own nurse training college, and is a proud member of the VetPartners family.
