Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This branch veterinary surgeon position is split between Acton and Uxbridge, offering a change of setting through the week while keeping a consistent rota. You will be working Mondays and Tuesdays at Acton, then Thursdays and Fridays at Uxbridge, with Friday as a shorter 8 hour day.

At Uxbridge, you will be part of a well established branch team and support a senior vet, RVNs and trainee nurses. The practice has three consult rooms, a large kennel and prep area leading into theatre, natural light throughout, and on site parking. At Acton, you will work in a distinctive setting opposite Acton underground station, in an old bank with an original vault.

The rota also includes a 1:3 branch Saturday and a 1:8 Mandeville Hospital Sunday rotation, plus up to 2 bank holidays per year. There are no on-call requirements for this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out consultations and examine pets presenting at the branch practices.
• Make evidence based management and treatment recommendations in line with GVG protocols.
• Perform GP surgery within your own competence and the limits of overnight care.
• Maintain, prescribe and dispense medicines in line with current legislation and RCVS guidance.
• Write accurate and thorough clinical records for colleagues to use.
• Refer cases promptly to a GVG Hospital when required.
• Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

• Qualified vet for a branch GP role.
• Comfortable working across both Acton and Uxbridge on the stated rota.
• Able to work alongside senior veterinary and nursing support.
• Willing to refer cases appropriately when they fall outside personal competence.

Benefits

• Salary band of £45,000 to £72,000 per annum, FTE based on 40 hours per week and pro rata for part time hours.

About the Practice

The role is with Goddard Veterinary Group, covering its Acton and Uxbridge branches. Uxbridge is described as a suburban area of West London, with the practice established in the community for many years, while Acton offers a more unusual working environment in an old bank building.

Support is also available from a regional manager and regional head vet, and Goddard Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides OOH care and support for complex cases.
