Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This part-time Veterinary Surgeon role is based in West Ham and averages 20 hours per week, including the weekend rota. It is a first-opinion GP position with a varied caseload, support from an experienced senior vet who enjoys teaching, and the chance to build your own client relationships while still having experienced colleagues nearby.

The role also offers exposure to hospital work through Sunday shifts at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital. You will be supported by an experienced team and regional manager, and the wider hospital network gives access to more complex cases, OOH care and hospitalisation.

West Ham is positioned near West Ham Park and Stratford, with easy access to green space and London transport links.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out consultations and recommend treatment plans using best practice, evidence and GVG protocols.
• Perform surgery within your own clinical competence and limitations.
• Prescribe and dispense medicines in line with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
• Keep accurate clinical notes and detailed patient histories.
• Refer cases promptly when further investigation or treatment is needed, including internal referral to Wanstead Veterinary Hospital.
• Build strong relationships with clients and their pets.
• Contribute to a respectful, supportive and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
• Comfortable with routine surgery and dentals.
• Enjoys working in a varied first-opinion GP environment.
• Happy to work part-time, including weekend rota commitments.

Benefits

• Salary band of £45,000 to £61,000 FTE based on 40 hours per week, depending on prior experience.

Goddard Veterinary Group is a long-established provider with 46 branches, three hospitals and its own nurse training college. The group also has a Colleague Forum, monthly Town Hall meetings, mental health first aid trained senior managers and wellness plans for new starters.

This role sits within the West Ham practice, which is supported by Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for more complex cases, OOH care and hospitalisation. The hospital has 24-hour facilities including CT, ultrasound, scopes and laparoscopic equipment, plus access to a range of specialists.
