Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is an opportunity for an experienced small animal vet who enjoys the breadth of general practice and wants the backing to work cases up properly. Green Pastures Vets is looking for someone confident with a varied first-opinion caseload and comfortable taking ownership of their cases.

The role is full-time, 40 hours across 4 days, with flexibility open to discussion. There are no out-of-hours or night duties. Weekends are 1 in 5, with two vets working together on Saturdays, and Sunday shifts alternate between a shorter morning consulting shift and a longer inpatient and ECC day shift.

The practice has invested in extensive in-house facilities, including a brand-new CT scanner, two operating theatres, a dedicated imaging suite, a dental suite with dental X-ray and an endoscopy suite. Separate cat and dog areas, each with their own entrance, waiting rooms, consulting rooms and hospitalisation areas, also help keep visits low stress.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a varied first-opinion small animal caseload independently
• Consult, operate and provide inpatient care across the practice's general practice workload
• Use in-house imaging, dental, surgical and CT facilities to work cases up fully
• Collaborate with experienced colleagues and contribute ideas to the practice
• Take part in the weekend rota, including Saturdays and alternating Sunday shifts

Requirements

• Experienced small animal veterinary surgeon
• Confident managing a varied first-opinion caseload independently
• Enjoys general practice and providing high quality first-opinion care
• Comfortable working as part of a collaborative team
• Ability to take ownership of cases and bring ideas to the practice
• No particular certificate or niche interest is required

About the Practice

Green Pastures Veterinary Centre is an independent, family-run small animal practice in Weston-super-Mare. The practice says it has been developing for almost 30 years and is continuing to expand, including a recent extension and further plans in progress.

The team includes 13 vets, with certificate holders in cardiology, dermatology, surgery, ECC and feline medicine. The nursing team also brings qualifications and experience in anaesthesia, consulting, ECC and imaging. Green Pastures has achieved ISFM Gold Cat Friendly and RWAF Silver accreditation, and the company information states it was founded in 1998.
