About the Role
Hamilton Specialist Referrals is seeking an organised and personable Senior Clinical Equipment Veterinary Care Assistant to join the team on a full-time basis. The role is based at a purpose-built, 24-hour veterinary hospital just outside High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.
This is a practical and varied position with a clear focus on the preparation, care and control of surgical kits and clinical equipment. You’ll be supporting clinicians and veterinary nurses, helping to keep equipment ready for use, and contributing to training, induction and good clinical governance across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, clean, sterilise and store surgical kits and clinical equipment
- Support the care and processing of flexible and rigid endoscopes in line with manufacturer guidance and infection control protocols
- Make sure surgical instruments and equipment are available, functional and ready for clinical use
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate servicing, repairs and replacement when needed
- Keep accurate records for maintenance, sterilisation cycles and compliance requirements
- Support clinicians and veterinary nurses with theatre and procedural equipment needs
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for equipment handling and care
- Provide on-the-job training and ongoing support to Veterinary Care Assistants
- Assist with induction and competency assessment for new team members
- Promote infection prevention, health and safety, and clinical governance best practice
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Care Assistant in a referral or veterinary hospital
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilisation processes and clinical equipment management
- Endoscopic equipment experience is highly desirable
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience training, coaching or mentoring colleagues
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with the wider clinical team
