Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Hamstone Vets is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing independent practice in Crewkerne. This is a full-time position with a flexible rota, and the role is suited to someone who enjoys building client relationships, working collaboratively, and developing professionally within a supportive team.

The rota can be arranged as a 4-day week with 8.30am to 6.30pm days, or as five shorter days. Out-of-hours cover is described as very manageable, with one weeknight per week and one weekend in six, including a Saturday consult shift from 9am to 12pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide small animal veterinary care within an independent, community-focused practice.
• Work collaboratively with an experienced team of vets, RVNs, ANAs, and reception staff.
• Take part in the out-of-hours rota, including one weeknight per week and one weekend in six.
• Attend the practice when required during on-call periods and support inpatient care where needed.
• Contribute to a practice that values long-term client relationships and personalised care.

Requirements

• Experience as a Veterinary Surgeon.
• A compassionate, confident, curious, and collaborative approach.
• Enjoyment of client communication and relationship building.
• Willingness to develop professionally while contributing to a growing practice.

Benefits

• Salary from £55,000 to £65,000, depending on experience.

About the Practice

Hamstone Vets is an independent veterinary practice based in the Linen Yard in Crewkerne, Somerset. It was founded by Emily and Ellie with the aim of combining modern veterinary expertise with the feel of a traditional, community-focused practice.

The practice has a modern setup that includes digital radiography, a dental suite, an in-house laboratory, and a surgical theatre with laparoscopy. It is also an ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Practice, with separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards. The team includes vets, five RVNs, two ANAs, reception staff, and a chartered veterinary physiotherapist who supports small animal rehabilitation.
