About the Role

This is a full-time small animal position based at Hamstone Vets, an independent practice in Crewkerne, Somerset. The role offers genuine flexibility on rota structure: you can choose a 4-day week (8.30-6.30) or five shorter days, whatever suits your lifestyle. Out-of-hours is very manageable at just one weeknight per week and one weekend in six, with Saturday consult shifts running 9-12. You'll be on call from home, attending the practice only when needed, with an RVN also on call to support and care for inpatients. After a weekend shift, you get the following Friday off in lieu. The practice is growing and expanding into a neighbouring unit, bringing consulting rooms from five to seven and further developing clinical facilities.

You'll work alongside a close-knit team of six vets and five RVNs, plus two animal nursing assistants and a welcoming reception team. The founders, Emily and Ellie, are hands-on leaders who work alongside the team every day, creating a supportive, collaborative culture where people genuinely want to be. The caseload is varied and rewarding, with an exceptional client base and strong community roots in the beautiful South West countryside, close to the Jurassic Coast.

The practice is ISFM Gold Cat-Friendly, with separate dog and cat waiting areas and wards, and is well-equipped with digital radiography, a dedicated dental suite, in-house laboratory, and a modern surgical theatre with laparoscopy. Endoscopy equipment is being explored to further expand diagnostic capabilities.
