Dispensary Assistant

About the Role

This Dispensary Assistant role is based at Hook Norton Veterinary Hospital and sits within a busy Small Animal team. You will work 40 hours per week, with Monday 8:00am to 4:00pm and Tuesday to Friday 10:00am to 6:00pm or 10:30am to 6:30pm. There is no weekend work.

The position is focused on keeping the dispensary running smoothly and safely. It is a customer facing role, so you'll need to be confident working in a fast paced environment, balancing multiple priorities and maintaining a sharp eye for detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense medications accurately under the direction of veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses.
• Label prescriptions and keep dispensing records up to date.
• Maintain accurate client and patient medication records.
• Record and report dispensing discrepancies in line with practice procedures.
• Monitor stock levels and keep medications and consumables supplied.
• Place daily stock orders, receive deliveries, check stock and rotate it correctly.
• Store stock appropriately and in line with manufacturer guidelines.
• Assist with stock takes and stock audits.
• Support chemotherapy medication ordering and management.
• Keep the dispensary clean, organised and efficient.
• Record refrigerator temperatures and maintain dispensary equipment and storage areas.
• Support the wider clinical team with dispensary related queries and requests.
• Process repeat prescription requests, liaise with clients about medication availability, explain collection processes and take payments.

Requirements

• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong organisational skills.
• Ability to work accurately in a busy environment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Confidence using computer based systems.
• Previous pharmacy or dispensary experience is desirable, ideally within a veterinary practice.
• Familiarity with Robovet is desirable.
• Knowledge of veterinary medicines and commonly used small animal medications is desirable.
• Understanding of veterinary medicines legislation is desirable.
• Experience managing stock and ordering processes is desirable.
