About the Role

This is a small animal Veterinary Surgeon role at Midland Veterinary Surgery, a single-site first-opinion practice where case continuity is a real feature of the job. You'll be joining a close-knit clinical team of 5 vets, 4 RVNs, 1 SVN, 1 care assistant and a supportive reception team, with management on site every day.

The role suits a vet who enjoys variety, whether that is consultations, medical work, surgery or more complex cases. The practice is equipped with dental X-ray and ultrasound, and visiting ultrasound and soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeons support the team with more involved work. There is an open-door culture, and ideas for improving clinical standards and team education are encouraged.

You'll work 30 hours across 3 to 5 days, with the earliest start at 8:00am and no more than two 7:30pm finishes per week. Saturdays are 1 in 3, from 8:00am to 2:00pm, typically alongside another vet, with no OOH and very limited sole charge.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out first opinion consultations, medical workups and routine surgery in line with your clinical strengths.
• Manage a varied small animal caseload with strong case continuity.
• Use in house diagnostics, dental X-ray and visiting specialist support to work up more complex cases.
• Contribute to clinical governance and share ideas to improve patient care and team learning.
• Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to support excellent client and patient care.
• Follow the rota pattern of 30 hours over 3 to 5 days, with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings and no OOH.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree and RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
• Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective client and colleague relationships.
• A proactive attitude to learning, with openness to feedback and development.
• Professionalism, reliability and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

About the Practice

Midland Veterinary Surgery is an established single-site first-opinion practice in Leyton. It has served pets in the local area since 1974 and became an RCVS accredited small animal practice in 2008. The practice joined Independent Vetcare Ltd in 2018.

The practice provides care for companion animals including cats, dogs, rabbits and other small furries, with occasional ornamental fish seen too. It is also a long-standing Veterinary Nurse Training Practice, and the building itself was formerly a drinking house that was converted into a veterinary surgery in the 1970s and has since been extensively renovated.
