About the Role
This is a permanent senior position offering real clinical autonomy alongside meaningful leadership responsibilities. You'll work four days per week (8amā6:30pm) with a manageable 1:3 weekend rota and once-weekly on-call duties, leaving plenty of room for island life. The practice particularly welcomes candidates with expertise in small animal medicine, dermatology, or dentistry.
Beyond clinical work, you'll support the wider teamāhandling complaints, managing sickness cover, and assisting colleagues with complex cases. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver first-class small animal and equine care at a busy, RCVS-accredited first-opinion practice
- Work with clinical autonomy on general practice cases, supported by a team of nine vets including several certificate holders
- Provide leadership and mentoring to the wider team, including nine RVNs, four student nurses (two 1st year, two 2nd year), five VCAs, and reception staff
- Support colleagues with complex cases, complaints resolution, and sickness cover
- Utilise the practice's comprehensive medical and surgical equipment to investigate and treat conditions independently (important given geographical limitations for referral)
- Contribute to the practice's reputation for delivering exceptional care to a discerning clientele
Requirements
- Qualified veterinary surgeon with proven experience in small animal and equine general practice
- Confident, driven, and comfortable with clinical autonomy
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Experience or interest in small animal medicine, dermatology, or dentistry is particularly valued
- Willingness to take on leadership responsibilities supporting team development and complaints handling
- Full-time considered, but part-time arrangements can be discussed for the right candidate
