Join a supportive 8-vet team where you'll get proper protected time for surgery, consultations, and case discussions—plus no out-of-hours work and just 1 in 3 Saturday mornings. This is what work-life balance actually looks like.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours work. Saturday morning duties only: 1 in 3 rota, consulting only, two vets on duty.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Isle Small Animal Veterinary Centre, a busy first-opinion practice nestled in the rural charm of Ely, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time or part-time position offering genuine flexibility and a 4-day working week (approximately 41 hours), giving you real breathing room alongside meaningful work.

Your week includes at least one full operating day dedicated to surgery, with the rest of your time split between consultations and protected administrative time for client communication, reporting results, and collaborative case discussions. You’ll never be short of senior support—the practice maintains a minimum of 3 vets per day (usually 4), creating a genuinely collaborative environment. Weekend duties are minimal: just 1 in 3 Saturday mornings in consulting mode with two vets present. Most importantly, there’s no out-of-hours work, so your evenings and nights are truly yours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily small animal consultations across the full range of general practice cases
  • Surgical procedures, with dedicated operating time built into your rota
  • Client communication and clinical reporting as part of protected administrative time
  • Active participation in case discussions with the wider team—encouraged, not squeezed in
  • Contributing to the practice’s collaborative culture and welfare-focused approach (the team works closely with local charities including Cats Protection)

Requirements

  • UK veterinary qualification (RCVS registration)
  • Experience as a qualified veterinary surgeon
  • Interest in developing clinical skills in a supportive environment with access to visiting orthopaedic specialists

Benefits

  • Flexible working: Full-time or part-time options available; 4-day working week
  • Time off: 6.8 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays (England and Wales allowance)
  • Professional support: £1,250 annual CPD allowance, access to IVC Evidensia Academy training centres, mentoring, and regional clinical coaches
  • Professional memberships & cover: BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees all covered
  • Wellbeing & insurance: Private medical insurance, enhanced family leave (maternity, paternity, adoption, surrogacy)
  • Financial perks: £1,250 annual Care Fund, Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes, retail discounts and cashback
  • Pet care: Reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
  • Career development: Clear progression pathways across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles

About the Practice

Isle Small Animal Veterinary Centre is a purpose-built first-opinion practice serving Ely and the surrounding rural Cambridgeshire area. The clinic is well-equipped with X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and dental X-ray facilities, enabling a wide variety of cases to be managed in-house. Part of the IVC Evidensia group, the practice maintains its own identity while benefiting from the broader support and resources of the larger organisation.

The team comprises 8 veterinary surgeons (all general practitioners with individual areas of clinical interest), 8 registered veterinary nurses with special interests including wound care, ISFM certification, and emergency & critical care, plus a visiting orthopaedic specialist attending weekly. The culture is genuinely collaborative—case discussion is embedded in the working day, not an afterthought. The practice has strong links with local welfare organisations and actively supports a broad range of charity cases, particularly through partnership with Cats Protection.
