About the Role

Pride Veterinary Referrals is recruiting a Medicine Intern for a fixed 12-month contract in its busy referral small animal hospital in Derby. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week across 5 days, with on-call responsibilities, and offers a salary of up to £33,000 per year.

This internship is aimed at supporting the next step towards an internal medicine residency. You will be joining a specialist-led referral environment with a strong collaborative culture and access to a wide range of clinical disciplines and support teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as a Medicine Intern within a busy referral small animal hospital.
• Contribute to internal medicine casework as part of a specialist-led team.
• Take part in the on-call rota linked to the role.
• Work alongside referral clinicians, residents, interns, and dedicated medicine nurses.
• Support collaboration across services to help achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

Requirements

• RCVS membership at the time of starting the internship.
• Proficiency in English.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Reliability.
• Ability to work and think clearly under pressure.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Desire to pursue a residency is not required, although the internship is aimed at preparing candidates for one.

About the Practice

Pride Veterinary Referrals is a large, purpose-built referral hospital in Derby and is part of IVC Evidensia. The hospital includes thirteen consultation rooms, seven hospital wards, five theatres, two ultrasound rooms, a cardiology suite, an advanced imaging suite with CT and MRI, interventional radiology capability, an endoscopy suite, a hydrotherapy pool and treadmills, and a dedicated chemotherapy room.

The team includes more than 70 veterinary professionals, with three ECVIM-CA internal medicine diplomates, one ECVIM-CA oncology diplomate, four ECVIM-CA residents, two discipline specific interns, and dedicated medicine nurses. The site also works alongside a first opinion service and the Vets at Night out-of-hours team, with on-site Finance, Customer Care, HR and IT support.
