Ready to join a supportive small animal team where you can build lasting client relationships and develop your clinical interests? Heathside Vets offers a balanced caseload, excellent facilities, and a 1:5 weekend rota that actually gives you breathing room.
1:5 weekend rota; sole-charge Saturday 8:30am to 4pm and Sunday 9:30am to 1pm, followed by four-day break after each worked weekend.
This full-time position offers a refreshing balance of first-opinion consultations and surgery in a well-equipped converted-house practice on the beautiful Hampshire coastline. You'll work 42 hours across four or five days, with a manageable 1:5 weekend rota covering sole-charge Saturday mornings and Sunday lunchtimes, followed by a four-day break after each worked weekend. Whether you're early in your career or looking to specialise, this is a practice where you can genuinely work cases up thoroughly and develop your clinical interests without the pressure of rushing through.
The caseload extends well beyond routine first opinion work. You'll have the opportunity to take on orthopaedics, laparoscopy, BOAS surgery, cardiology and a wide range of medical investigations. The practice particularly welcomes vets with an interest in ophthalmology and will support anyone considering a certificate or further qualification.
Located between Southampton and Portsmouth with easy access to the New Forest and coast, this role offers the best of both worlds: a charming small-town setting with countryside and seaside on your doorstep. Temporary accommodation is also available if needed.
Heathside Veterinary Surgery is part of IVC Evidensia, the UK's number one vet care provider serving over 2 million animals. The practice is a well-established, converted-house facility with multiple extensions, serving a loyal client base with a stable team of five veterinary surgeons, eight veterinary nurses and dedicated support staff. The team includes certificate holders in cardiology and medicine, alongside vets experienced in laparoscopic surgery. The nursing team has been training student nurses for more than 26 years and the practice holds Silver ISFM accreditation.
The practice is exceptionally well equipped with ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound, digital and dental X-ray, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, surgical laser and orthopaedic equipment including MMP and SOP kits. This investment in facilities means many procedures are performed in-house rather than requiring referral. IVC Evidensia is committed to supporting ongoing professional development, wellbeing and career progression across primary care, referral, leadership and specialist roles.
