About the Role

You’ll be joining Kingfisher Veterinary Practice’s friendly small animal team in Crewkerne, a supportive environment where your skills and wellbeing genuinely matter. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract working four days per week (8:30am–6:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break), plus one Saturday morning in three (8:30am–1:00pm)—a realistic schedule that respects your personal time.

The practice operates across four sites as an RCVS Tier 2accredited centre with excellent modern facilities. You’ll have access to ultrasound, endoscopy, digital and dental x-ray, ECG, multi-parameter monitoring, tonometry, and comprehensive in-house labs. The team also benefits from a visiting orthopaedic specialist, offering real surgical learning opportunities. With separate dog and cat wards (one holding a Silver ISFM award) and out-of-hours care managed by a dedicated OOH centre, you’ll work in an environment built for both clinical excellence and sustainable working.

  • Participate in the practice’s quality improvement and infection prevention programmes
  • Work collaboratively with the reception team and wider practice staff

  • Wellbeing Support: Private Medical Insurance, 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (confidential helpline), enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and surrogacy pay)
  • Professional Development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid CPD leave, certificate support, access to IVC Evidensia Academy learning, Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia, and eligibility to apply for research funding

About the Practice

Kingfisher Veterinary Practice has been serving the local Crewkerne community since 1906 (celebrating its centenary in 2006). The practice grew from a one-vet horse operation into a progressive multi-site enterprise. In 2009, it separated its small and large animal services; today, Kingfisher Vets operates as a four-centre small animal practice with vets from diverse backgrounds and many long-standing local nursing and reception staff. The practice maintains strong community ties—visiting local schools, supporting St. Margarets Hospice annually, and operating as a traditional privately-run clinic embedded in its community.

Now part of IVC Evidensia, Kingfisher combines independent practice values with access to wider group resources, expertise, and development pathways.
