1:5 weekend rota only, no out-of-hours emergency duties
This is a full-time position based at Kirks Vets' Sleaford practice, working alongside 8 other veterinary surgeons across two sites. The standard pattern is a 4-day week with 10.5-hour days, though flexible shift arrangements can be negotiated. Weekend cover operates on a 1:5 rota with no out-of-hours emergency work required, making this an ideal opportunity for someone seeking better work-life balance.
You'll be involved in all general veterinary duties, both medical and surgical, within a practice known for its supportive, positive culture where staff genuinely enjoy coming to work. The practice is set in a country location with excellent links to Lincoln and London by train, offering the perfect balance of rural setting with access to city amenities.
Kirks Vets has operated for approximately 100 years and is now part of inspiring vet care, the UK's number one vet care provider trusted with the care of over 2 million animals. The Sleaford practice was built in 2001 following a major investment, and the practice expanded with a second site in Grantham in 2011. The team comprises 8 veterinary surgeons, 10 registered veterinary nurses, student veterinary nurses, and veterinary care assistants supported by full reception, admin, and finance staff.
The practice combines first opinion veterinary care with additional services including pet grooming, puppy parties, weight management clinics, and a pet shop at both locations. The team works closely with the RSPCA, Cats Protection, and local wildlife charities. A certificate holder in cardiology and a vet studying towards an ophthalmology certificate provide opportunities for learning and specialist support.
