Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal Medicine

About the Role

You'll join Blacks Vets as a Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for small animal medicine and diagnostics. This permanent position offers full-time or part-time options, working up to 40 hours per week with a 1:10 full weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday) and 1:5 Saturdays, supported by time back in lieu. The practice operates a first-opinion hospital model delivering 24-hour care, with a dedicated night team handling all out-of-hours work, so you can focus on daytime consultations and case management.

Located at Blacks Veterinary Practice in Dudley with surrounding branches across the West Midlands, you'll benefit from a varied caseload with strong emphasis on consultations, medical work-ups, routine procedures, and preventative healthcare. This role suits vets who thrive in a general practice setting, value continuity of care, and want to develop medical expertise while enjoying clinical autonomy to manage your own caseload.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality first-opinion consultations with emphasis on diagnostic work-ups and medical cases
• Build long-term client relationships and manage own caseload with clinical freedom
• Perform routine procedures and preventative healthcare alongside medical management
• Collaborate with a 19-vet team including 7 Certificate Holders in cardiology, dermatology, medicine, ophthalmology, and soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery
• Engage with referral centres and specialists across the wider Linnaeus network
• Contribute to a progressive, award-winning team environment with ongoing professional development

Requirements

• RCVS registered with minimum 4 years first-opinion experience
• Either hold a Certificate in Medicine or be working towards one
• Confident across all first-opinion work
• Team player who values high standards of care
• Strong interest in small animal medicine and general practice

Blacks Vets is a small animal first-opinion hospital and accredited veterinary facility located in Dudley on the edge of the West Midlands, within 30 minutes of Birmingham City Centre.
