Join London Vet Specialists' multi-disciplinary team on the Thames and grow your skills across orthopaedics, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, and emergency care—no referral experience needed.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work across all specialist services at London Vet Specialists, a state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary referral centre that relocated to a stunning new site in Hammersmith in May 2024. You’ll rotate through orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, oncology, neurology, and emergency & critical care—gaining broad experience and building your own clinical interests along the way. This is a full-time role with no prior referral experience required, making it ideal for nurses ready to expand their scope and work alongside specialist clinicians.

The practice sits on the banks of the River Thames in vibrant Hammersmith & Fulham, bringing together 6 RVNs supported by 5 Lead RVNs who mentor the team through rotations. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking Linnaeus practice, known for putting patient care at the heart of everything.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, sustainable patient care across all specialist disciplines
  • Prioritise inpatient nursing care and implement individualised nursing care plans
  • Monitor sedation and anaesthesia; ensure patient comfort and safety during investigations, hospitalisation, and surgery
  • Assist with consultations and conduct nurse consultations where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records in SmartFlow, particularly for anaesthetic and hospitalisation documentation
  • Support stock management and liaise with pharmacy and purchasing staff
  • Work with the Patient Flow Coordinator and Lead Nurses to plan daily caseloads and flag concerns
  • Participate in team briefings and incident reflections (including Halo reporting) to continuously improve patient safety
  • Liaise with clients on behalf of clinicians to provide and receive patient updates
  • Champion the practice’s cat-friendly (ISFM) and dog-friendly (Dogs Trust/BVBA) standards across all services
  • Participate in hospital committees—Sustainability, Culture & Wellbeing, Dog/Cat-Friendly—to shape the hospital’s culture and standards

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Strong commitment to high standards of patient and client care
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
  • Enthusiasm for continuous professional development and exploring specialist areas
  • Prior referral experience is not required—eagerness to learn is
