About the Role

You’ll work a four-day week with Wednesdays off and no Sunday duties—a genuine commitment to work-life balance. Your 40 hours will include 1 in 3 Saturday rotations shared between the Dulwich and New Cross practices, giving you predictable scheduling alongside colleagues who genuinely support each other.

The Dulwich clinic is currently undergoing a full refurbishment, and you’ll have the chance to shape the future of a modern, well-equipped practice. You’ll work alongside a highly experienced Lead Vet, another Vet Surgeon, 1 RVN, 1 SVN, and 2 VCAs, all in a positive, collaborative environment focused on clinical excellence and client care.

This role suits candidates with 2–3 years of UK post-qualification experience who are confident managing a mix of routine surgery, consultations, and sole charge work on Saturdays. Ultrasound skills (AFAST/TFAST) are highly valued, and there are opportunities for certificate training if you’re interested in developing further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional clinical care during consultations and surgical procedures
  • Create tailored, accurate treatment plans and cost estimates for each patient
  • Communicate clearly with clients, keeping them informed throughout their pet’s care journey
  • Work as part of a collaborative team, mentoring and supporting RVNs and SVNs to develop their skills
  • Manage sole charge duties on Saturday shifts at either Dulwich or New Cross practice
  • Arrange clinical handovers and out-of-hours transfers for patients requiring enhanced care
  • Maintain the highest standards of regulatory compliance, clinical best practice, and operational excellence
  • Share clinical knowledge and support progressive practice culture across the Medivet community

Requirements

  • RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with 2–3 years UK post-qualification experience
  • Confident delivering exceptional patient and client care in a busy practice setting
  • Comfortable working as the sole vet on Saturdays and managing mixed caseloads
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Clinical leadership skills and experience supporting nurse consultations and Schedule 3 procedures
  • Ultrasound experience (AFAST/TFAST) highly desirable
  • Friendly, team-oriented approach with openness to building workplace relationships

Benefits

  • Work-life balance: 4-day week with Wednesdays off and no Sunday duties; 1 in 3 Saturday rotations
  • Health & wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance from day one; health cash plan covering dental, physio, and optical; 24/7 private GP service; access to 24-hour phone and in-person counselling
  • Time off: 5 weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 6 weeks with service); additional paid ‘Day for You’
  • Professional development: £1,500 annual CPD budget with 3 days’ paid leave; access to internal CPD and clinical communities; funded certificate opportunities
  • Financial support: VDS, RCVS, and BVA fees paid; life assurance at 3× salary; interest-free season ticket loan; cycle to work scheme
  • Career progression: Sabbatical entitlement based on length of service; visa sponsorship support and relocation assistance available
