Up to £30,000/yr
Sidcup, London
Full Time
Join a tight-knit first opinion and ophthalmology referral practice where flexibility meets family values. Small team, big support, natural light, and a garden for summer breaks—because great nursing care starts when you're actually happy at work.

About the Role

You’ll be part of a close-knit practice that genuinely understands work-life balance. This first opinion and ophthalmology referral clinic operates with a small, friendly team and has earned a reputation for feeling ‘homely’—clients regularly comment on the welcoming atmosphere. The practice functions independently within the Medivet group, so you get the best of both worlds: the personal touch of a family-run clinic with access to Medivet’s broader resources, including their local 24-hour centre and combined staff knowledge.

The shift pattern is flexible and tailored around your life outside the practice. Whether you have hobbies, family commitments, or simply need predictability, the team works with you to find something sustainable. The practice features natural light throughout, a pleasant garden for summer lunches, and a collaborative culture where everyone genuinely knows each other.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on patient care through nurse-led appointments and Schedule 3 activities
  • Support veterinary surgeons during consultations, surgeries, and procedures whilst maintaining regulatory and operational standards
  • Manage patient monitoring, admissions, and discharges with meticulous attention to detail
  • Provide exceptional client communication and care throughout the patient journey
  • Work collaboratively within a supportive team of two and a half vets, five nursing staff, and one receptionist
  • Contribute to the practice’s commitment to high standards in both first opinion and referral ophthalmology work

Requirements

  • RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Passion for delivering exceptional patient and client care
  • Team player mentality with a genuine commitment to supporting colleagues
  • Ability to work flexibly within a varied shift pattern

Benefits

  • Salary: £30,000 per year
  • Annual Leave: 5 weeks plus bank holidays (rising with length of service), plus one extra ‘Day for You’—a paid day off just for you
  • Health & Wellbeing: Health Cash Plan from day one, 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support, life assurance at 3 x salary
  • Professional Development: £750 CPD allowance with 2 days’ paid leave per year, access to Clinical Communities and internal CPD, funded certificates and internal career pathways
  • Financial Support: RCVS and VDS fees paid, Cycle to Work scheme, Season Ticket loans
  • Additional Perks: Discounts on Medivet products and services

About the Practice

This first opinion and ophthalmology referral practice operates as an independent clinic within the Medivet group. With a team of two and a half vets, five nursing staff (including VCAs, student and registered veterinary nurses), and one receptionist, the practice has built a reputation for providing exceptional care in a relaxed, homely environment. Clients consistently praise the welcoming atmosphere and personal touch.

As part of Medivet, the practice benefits from support services, access to a local 24-hour centre, and shared clinical knowledge across the group—all whilst maintaining the autonomy and character of a family-run clinic. The workplace prioritises staff wellbeing and recognises that great veterinary care is built on a happy, supported team.
