🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:2 weekend rota, Saturday mornings 8:30am–1pm only

About the Role

This is a part-time opportunity to join an established small animal and exotic practice as a Veterinary Care Assistant, working approximately 20 hours per week. You’ll be the third hand in theatre and the caring presence in the ward, supporting both the clinical team and their patients through procedures and recovery. The practice welcomes a diverse caseload including zoo and exotic work alongside small animal medicine, so no two days look quite the same.

Weekend commitments are minimal—just a 1:2 rota covering Saturday mornings (8:30am–1pm)—making this role ideal if you’re looking to balance veterinary work with genuine time off. You’ll work within a collaborative team of four veterinary surgeons, an Head RVN, two RVNs, one other VCA, and two CCAs, so you’re never isolated and always supported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support vets and nurses during surgical and clinical procedures, maintaining the highest standards of patient and client care
  • Provide compassionate in-patient care: walking, toileting, feeding, and monitoring pets during their time in practice
  • Ensure all duties comply with practice protocols, health and safety regulations, and animal welfare standards
  • Collaborate with the wider team to deliver a seamless experience for clients and their animals
  • Contribute to the smooth running of a mixed small animal and exotic practice

Requirements

  • Genuine passion for animal care and client service
  • Ability to prioritise, remain calm under pressure, and adapt to a dynamic clinical environment
  • Team player with a willingness to learn and develop your skills
  • Must be over 18 years old (Health and Safety Executive requirements for this role)

Benefits

  • Health & Wellbeing: Health Cash Plan from day one, 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support, Life Assurance (3x salary)
  • Annual Leave: 5 weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional length-of-service increases. Plus one extra ‘Day for You’—a paid day off entirely for yourself
  • Lifestyle Perks: Cycle to Work scheme, Season Ticket loans, discounts on Medivet products and services

About the Practice

This small animal and exotic practice is part of the Medivet group, a network of progressive veterinary practices across the UK. The practice operates with a strong clinical team and a genuine commitment to employee wellbeing and professional development. The diverse caseload—combining routine small animal work with fascinating exotic and zoo cases—creates a stimulating environment for staff keen to broaden their knowledge.
