A 4-day week is the standard working pattern for experienced vets, with options to adjust your salary or reduce hours further to suit your lifestyle. You'll benefit from generous breaks during your 38-hour week, with 15-minute consultation slots allowing time to catch up on admin, review results, or simply take a breath. The shared small-animal-only on-call rota is currently 1 weeknight in 12 (on paper 1:8) plus approximately 2.5 weekends in 10. Recovery time is built in: a half day follows night calls, and a full day off follows weekend cover. Accommodation is available at the practice for those who prefer to stay on-site during out-of-hours shifts. A twilight RVN provides triaging and inpatient management until 10:30pm, with a dedicated on-call RVN thereafter.
