Registered Veterinary Nurse (Referral)

About the Role

Join Moorview Referrals, a purpose-built referral hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland, as a Multidisciplinary Registered Veterinary Nurse. You'll work a flexible 40-hour week with a choice of 5 x 8-hour or 4 x 10-hour shifts between 8am and 8pm, plus a manageable 1-in-5 weekend rota of two 12-hour shifts with time off in lieu. The hospital sits close to Newcastle and the beautiful Northumberland coastline, offering an enviable work-life balance in a setting that values continuous learning.

This is a full-time permanent role rotating through surgical departments including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and neurology, alongside kennel support and occasional ECC and medicine shifts. You'll be part of a large, collaborative clinical team delivering complex referral caseloads across multiple disciplines in a modern facility equipped with four operating theatres, CT and MRI scanners, advanced ultrasound and endoscopy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced nursing care to complex referral cases across orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, ECC, and internal medicine
• Monitor anaesthesia for a variety of referral procedures and provide perioperative rehabilitation support
• Perform diagnostic imaging including CT and radiography
• Manage inpatient care: medication administration, patient monitoring, exercise protocols, and discharge preparation
• Prepare patients for theatre and scrub into procedures where required
• Contribute to clinical decision-making and knowledge-sharing to continually improve outcomes
• Support clients and clinicians with professionalism and exceptional communication

Requirements

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Confidence in medical and surgical nursing within clinical practice
• Experience in surgery and anaesthesia, including complex cases
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Excellent organisational skills and workload management
• Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
• Passion for exceptional patient care and an interest in developing skills in anaesthesia, analgesia, radiography, and advanced imaging
• Referral experience advantageous but not essential; full training provided
