No out-of-hours duties. Saturday work on 1:7 rota with time in lieu given on Monday.

About the Role

Moorview Vets is looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its well-established small animal practice in Backworth, just outside Newcastle. You’ll be involved in all aspects of nursing care—from pre- and post-operative support to in-patient care for surgical and medical cases, across clinics and dedicated nursing shifts. This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week across a mixture of shifts between 7:30am and 8:30pm, with Saturday work on a 1:7 rota (8:30am–5:00pm, with Monday time in lieu). There are no out-of-hours duties, making this an excellent role for candidates seeking genuine work-life balance.

Based primarily at the Backworth location, you’ll have occasional visits to the practice’s other consulting branches across the Northeast. The practice is one of the few first-opinion practices in the region equipped with an on-site CT scanner, alongside digital x-ray, in-house lab, ECG, ultrasound, laparoscopy, and dental x-ray facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for surgical and medical cases before, during, and after procedures
  • Support clinics and in-patient care alongside a team of 10 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 2 Student Veterinary Nurses, and 1 Animal Care Assistant
  • Collaborate on complex cases within a supportive team environment where additional help is always available
  • May undertake Schedule 3 procedures (if trained), helping the veterinary team focus on more complex cases
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous professional development and ongoing learning

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
  • Experience in small animal nursing practice
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

  • CPD & Development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid pro rata; certificate support; access to IVC Evidensia Academy learning platforms and Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia; research funding available to all vets and nurses
  • Wellbeing Support: Enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and surrogacy pay); private medical insurance; cycle to work scheme; discounted gym membership; non-accidental injury support
  • Professional Support: VDS cover; RCVS fees paid; infection prevention and control programme; quality improvement programme
  • Additional Perks: Pension (5% employee / 3% employer); Pawsome Benefits reward gateway (discounts and cashback with 100+ retailers); discounted staff pet care
  • Competitive Base Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum depending on experience
