Assistant Charity Shop Manager

About the Role

You will join the friendly team at PDSA Hartlepool as Assistant Charity Shop Manager, supporting the Shop Manager with the day-to-day running of the store. The role sits in a busy, customer-focused retail environment where you will help create a great shopping experience while contributing to PDSA's wider mission of keeping pets and people together when times are tough.

This is a 21-hour-per-week temporary role. You will work closely with a dedicated team of volunteers, using your retail experience to support sales targets, improve stock rotation, strengthen brand messaging and spot opportunities through financial and competitor data. You'll also help promote PDSA locally, encouraging donations and raising awareness of the charity's work.

The role suits someone organised, approachable and proactive, with a genuine enthusiasm for PDSA's purpose and a strong interest in coaching and motivating others.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Shop Manager with the day-to-day running of the Hartlepool PDSA shop.
• Work with volunteers to maximise profit and maintain a welcoming, well-presented store.
• Help deliver strong customer service in a busy retail setting.
• Support efficient stock rotation and effective brand messaging.
• Use financial and competitor data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Promote PDSA in the local community and help generate item and cash donations.
• Raise awareness of the charity's work with customers and supporters.
• Coach and motivate volunteers while encouraging new ideas and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Retail sector experience.
• A proven track record of contributing to sales targets.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organised, approachable and proactive.
• Confidence working with and motivating volunteers.
• Enthusiasm for PDSA's work and a willingness to represent the charity positively.
