About the Role

This Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon role is based in Cardiff and focuses on urgent and critical care in a busy emergency hospital setting. The rota is 33.41 hours per week, with Week 1 running Monday to Sunday from 19:45 to 08:15 on an awake shift, followed by Week 2 off and Week 3 off.

You will be making clinical decisions under pressure, supporting pets and owners at difficult times, and working as part of a charity that provides vital veterinary care for people facing financial hardship.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide out of hours veterinary care for urgent and critical cases.
• Make independent clinical decisions in an emergency hospital environment.
• Deliver high quality emergency patient and client care.
• Support pets and owners through overnight emergency presentations.
• Use ultrasound, radiography and a multi parameter machine as part of case management.

Requirements

• MRCVS registration.
• Experience delivering high quality emergency patient and client care.
• Confidence assessing and managing emergency and critical care cases independently.
• A pragmatic, welfare focused approach to clinical decision making.
• Calm and confident performance in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
• Computer literacy and comfort using clinical systems.
