About the Role
PDSA Derby is looking for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly team and take a clinical lead in a role built around variety, case discussion and real purpose. You’ll see a wide mix of medical and surgical cases, including more complex workups, while helping pets and owners who need support most.
Alongside your own caseload, you’ll be supporting colleagues with second opinions, coaching and mentoring others, and contributing to continuous improvement, good governance and joined-up care. Flexible working options will be considered for this 37.5 hour per week, full-time permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on a wide range of medical and surgical cases, including more complex workups.
- Provide second opinions and support colleagues with clinical decision-making.
- Communicate realistic, evidence-based treatment options clearly to clients.
- Work closely with the wider clinical and client service teams to support compassionate care.
- Coach and mentor colleagues as a visible senior member of the team.
- Help embed high clinical standards, good governance and continuous improvement.
- Support new ways of working and PDSA’s mission and values.
Requirements
- Strong clinical confidence.
- Sound judgement and a calm, pragmatic approach to decision-making.
- Confidence leading on cases.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to build trust with pet owners and explain treatment plans clearly.
- Willingness to coach and mentor others.
