About the Role
This Veterinary Surgeon role at PDSA Huyton offers a varied mix of consultations, emergency work and surgery, with high case volumes and plenty of hands-on clinical experience. You will be supported through a structured Veterinary Surgeon Skills Development Framework, with formal annual reviews as your skills progress.
The caseload includes procedures such as pyometras, cystotomies, enterotomies, FHNE, enucleations and caesarean sections, plus dentistry and emergency and complex surgical case management. Flexible working patterns are available, with full-time and part-time options, working hours between 08:30 and 18:30, and a weekend rota currently operating on a 1 in 6 basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a mix of consultations, emergency work and surgery.
- Manage a diverse caseload in a busy hospital environment.
- Carry out procedures covered by the Skills Development Framework, including soft tissue surgery, dentistry and ophthalmic surgery development.
- Work collaboratively in a highly team-focused hospital with case discussion and shared learning.
- Provide high quality patient and client care in a fast-paced setting.
Requirements
- MRCVS registered.
- 12 months' UK small animal practice experience.
- Experience delivering high quality patient and client care.
- A pragmatic, efficient and welfare-focused approach to clinical decision-making.
- Confidence, adaptability and efficiency in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Computer literate and comfortable using clinical systems.

About the Practice
PDSA provides veterinary care for the pets of people facing financial hardship and has done so for over 100 years. PDSA Huyton is described as a large, very busy hospital with a highly collaborative culture, a heavy emergency workload and a wide range of clinical interests across the team.
The hospital is well equipped with separate dog and cat kennelling facilities, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment. The role is based in Huyton, Liverpool.
