Senior Consulting Nurse

About the Role

Pennard Vets is looking for a Senior Consulting Nurse to lead their nursing consulting department and help shape the future of nurse-led services in a modern small animal hospital. You'll deliver client-facing consultations, design and implement advanced nurse-led clinics, and play a central role in developing a dedicated feline hospital stream. This full-time position runs across 4 days for 40 hours, with a manageable rota that includes 1:6 Saturday mornings and 1:12 on-call weekends, offering genuine work-life balance.

You'll work within a multidisciplinary small animal team, supported by specialist colleagues and modern facilities including MRI, CT imaging, and mechanical ventilation. This is a rare opportunity to develop nurse-led services from the ground up, alongside a collaborative and friendly team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the nursing consulting department, setting standards and driving clinical excellence across nurse-led services
• Design, develop, and implement advanced nurse-led clinics that elevate clinical standards and client engagement
• Deliver nurse-led consultations including preventative healthcare, senior wellness, medical management plans, and post-surgical care
• Contribute to the development of a dedicated feline hospital within the existing site, helping establish gold-standard cat care
• Support consulting veterinary surgeons during appointments, ensuring efficient workflow and excellent client experience
• Manage the in-house laboratory, ensuring accurate diagnostics, quality control, and efficient workflows
• Support clients with empathy and professionalism, including during sensitive situations
• Uphold excellent infection control standards throughout the department

Requirements

• RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse
• Genuine passion for client-facing work and building trusted relationships
• Particular interest in feline nursing and cat-friendly care
• Confidence running nurse-led consultations independently with strong clinical reasoning
• Leadership experience or readiness to step into a department lead role
• Experience with in-house laboratory diagnostics and quality assurance
• Enthusiasm for developing and growing nurse-led clinic services
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Calm and professional demeanor, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Passionate about animal welfare and continuous professional development
