About the Role

You’ll join Priory Vets’ farm division as a full-time veterinary surgeon, working across a diverse caseload that spans dairy, beef, sheep, equine, smallholder enterprises, and TB testing. Based in Cardigan and Lampeter in rural Ceredigion, this role offers the variety and community connection that draws vets to farm practice, backed by the infrastructure and support of a well-established practice.

Out-of-hours duties are shared across the team of 6 farm vets, ensuring you’re never isolated—there’s always a colleague at the end of the phone. OOH work is paid separately at a competitive rate, recognising the commitment it requires. You’ll be part of a supportive group that includes 2 veterinary technicians and a strong support team, all working to high clinical standards with access to the latest technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical veterinary care to farm and equine clients across the practice territory, including scheduled visits and emergency callouts
  • Manage a caseload encompassing dairy herds, beef operations, sheep flocks, equine patients, smallholding clients, and TB testing programmes
  • Participate in the shared out-of-hours rota as part of the farm vet team
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary technicians and support staff to deliver comprehensive animal health services
  • Maintain clinical standards and contribute to the practice’s reputation within the farming community

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with appropriate registration
  • Experience in farm animal practice (ideally with mixed farm and equine exposure)
  • Willingness to participate in out-of-hours cover as part of a shared rota
  • Strong communication skills and genuine interest in working with farming clients
  • Professional approach to health and safety in farm environments
