About the Role

Swift Referrals is a specialist referral hospital dedicated to providing world-class veterinary care across multiple disciplines. As an Internal Medicine Nurse, you’ll be at the heart of patient care, supporting the clinical team from admission through to discharge. Your day-to-day will involve imaging support, medical procedure preparation, anaesthesia monitoring, complex ward care, laboratory diagnostics, rehabilitation work, and client communication. This is a full-time role spread across 4 days per week with a 1:4 weekend rota (time off in lieu), plus occasional support during holiday or sickness cover. Key Responsibilities

  • Support Internal Medicine cases from patient admission through discharge, ensuring exemplary care standards throughout the patient journey
  • Assist with imaging procedures using the hospital’s 1.5T Siemens MRI scanner and 128-slice GE CT scanner
  • Prepare patients for medical procedures and monitor anaesthesia during treatment
  • Provide complex ward care for medical cases, with experience across both canine and feline patients
  • Perform laboratory diagnostics and contribute to rehabilitation protocols
  • Communicate with clients and support their understanding of treatment plans
  • Assist across other specialisms (orthopaedics, neurology, soft tissue surgery) and support the Emergency and Critical Care unit when needed
  • Contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment and pursue your professional development interests

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • A keen interest in internal medicine and medical cases
  • Desire to develop clinical skills within a multidisciplinary referral hospital setting

  • Previous referral or specialist experience is desirable but not essential—the practice recruits based on attitude and aptitude, offering full training and support to new team members

Swift Referrals is a purpose-built multidisciplinary referral hospital serving Yorkshire with a team of over 80 dedicated professionals. The hospital specialises in orthopaedics, neurology, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities including a 1.5T Siemens MRI scanner, 128-slice GE CT scanner, Doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, arthroscopy, and advanced operating theatres. The practice also operates a dedicated Emergency and Critical Care unit with a large ICU for critically ill patients, with separate wards for dogs and cats.
