The Beck Veterinary Practice is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join their independent, family-run team in Whitby. This is a mixed animal role with approximately 85% small animal and 15% equine caseload, offering the opportunity to develop skills across both disciplines. You'll work a manageable 4-day week (8.30 am to 6.30 pm) with dedicated admin time and proper lunch breaks, finishing consultations at 6.15 pm so you can leave on time.
The practice is set in a beautiful coastal location famed for its fish and chips, clifftop walks, and access to the North York Moors National Park. The Beck Veterinary Practice has been family-run since 1946 and remains dedicated to providing high-quality care to the local community across three generations of Beck vets. The practice moved to its purpose-built Whitby location in 1997 and opened a branch in Loftus shortly after. Current owner Simon Beck joined his father's practice in 1983, and his daughter Libby, a fully qualified veterinary surgeon and clinical director, graduated from Nottingham University in 2012. The practice team is highly experienced and genuinely enjoys working together, with a culture that values mentorship and development.
The main Whitby facility is purpose-built with separate cat and dog areas, digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, and multi-parameter monitoring. Equine facilities include digital radiography with dental X-ray capability, modern dental equipment, and rasping facilities. The team also treats wildlife cases and works closely with the local wildlife sanctuary.
