Veterinary Care Assistant

About the Role

This is a varied Veterinary Care Assistant role at Sutton Coldfield Vets for Pets, offered on a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. It is a full time position working 40 hours per week, with shifts of either 8am to 5pm or 10am to 7pm, and no weekends.

You will support the veterinary surgeons and nursing team with the day to day care of patients, while also helping the practice run smoothly. The work covers both clinical and reception areas, so you will be moving between patient care, client contact and practical support across the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

• Caring for hospitalised patients
• Supporting the nursing team with clinical duties
• Cleaning and preparing clinical areas
• Safely handling animals
• Restocking supplies and maintaining equipment
• Providing practical support to the wider practice team
• Helping the reception team when required
• Welcoming clients and their pets
• Answering telephone enquiries
• Booking appointments and taking payments
• Assisting with general reception administration

Requirements

• Experience in a veterinary practice or animal care setting is desirable
• You should enjoy working with animals
• You need to be compassionate and dependable
• You should be able to stay calm and organised in a busy environment
• You need to be confident communicating with clients
• You should be comfortable working as part of a busy team
