🕐 Schedule & Rota

Dedicated ECC night shift role. After training completion: average three shifts per week with no more than three consecutive nights. Flexible hours between 30–40 hours per week.

About the Role

This is a structured training pathway into Emergency and Critical Care, designed for vets who want expert support to thrive in ECC. You’ll complete an intensive 8-week Cutting Edge programme combining 250 hours of CPD delivered by recognised ECC specialists, interactive seminars, practical hands-on sessions, and personalised clinical mentorship from experienced senior clinicians. Training takes place at Vets Now’s Central Support hub in Scotland (accommodation provided), giving you the chance to build your professional network with fellow participants.

After completing the programme, you’ll join an ECC clinic of your choice on a full-time basis with flexible rota options that genuinely work for your lifestyle. You’ll work between 30–40 hours per week with no more than three consecutive nights and an average of three shifts weekly—genuine night shift work with real support.

Based in Hull, you’ll be joining Vets Now’s highly skilled emergency team, part of the UK’s leading provider of out-of-hours emergency pet care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop competence in recognition and management of shock, fluid therapy, and transfusion medicine
  • Manage respiratory, cardiac, and neurological emergencies alongside trauma cases
  • Perform surgical emergency procedures, supported by wet lab training
  • Conduct blood gas analysis and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)
  • Apply clinical reasoning and decision-making in high-pressure ECC environments
  • Work effectively within the emergency team and communicate clearly with clients
  • Adjust to night shift working patterns with structured support during transition

Requirements

  • Minimum six months’ small animal veterinary experience
  • Confidence consulting and performing routine surgical procedures sole charge
  • RCVS registration (or eligible for registration)
  • Commitment to developing expertise in Emergency and Critical Care
