About the Role

This weekend-only registered veterinary nurse position at Vets Now Portsmouth offers the perfect balance for those seeking to develop emergency and critical care (ECC) expertise without full-time commitment. Whether you're looking for a second income, balancing family responsibilities, or building specialist skills, you'll work within a highly skilled emergency team providing round-the-clock care when clients need it most.

Two flexible rota options are available: every other weekend (Saturday 12:00-19:30 and Sunday 08:00-19:30), or a longer rotating cycle across weeks. Bank holidays are shared fairly across the team. This is genuine emergency nursing work, not routine daytime practice.

Key Responsibilities

• First Aid and telephone triage: provide appropriate clinical advice and perform emergency interventions in clinic
• Critical Care: manage and monitor major body systems, track in-patient trends, identify rapid changes, deliver physiotherapy, assess pain, and provide wound and dressing care
• Diagnostics: perform basic diagnostic procedures confidently, including some sole charge work
• Support surgery, anaesthesia, and in-patient nursing as part of the core clinical team

Requirements

• RCVS registered for a minimum of six months
• Motivated to maintain high clinic standards
• Passionate about caring for clients and their pets
• Experience with an ECC caseload is advantageous (but not essential)
