Registered Veterinary Nurse (Day RVN)

About the Role

This is a hands-on day RVN position where you will be involved in all aspects of patient care. Village Vets Berkhamsted is a busy 2-vet practice with a varied caseload, including exposure to exotics through a certificate holder. You'll be involved in all aspects of patient care, from consultations and surgical support through to inpatient monitoring and client communication. The practice has exposure to exotic cases through a certificate holder, giving you the chance to broaden your clinical skills in a supportive environment rather than under the pressure of a large referral setting. The role balances routine cases with more complex work, offering genuine development opportunities. You'll include Saturday work at Berkhamsted, with a shared Sunday and emergency rota managed through the wider St Albans hospital, keeping you engaged with a broader caseload while maintaining a primarily day-based schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Support veterinary consultations and provide nurse-led clinics
• Assist with surgical procedures and anaesthesia management
• Deliver inpatient care, patient monitoring, and post-operative support
• Carry out Schedule III procedures where appropriate
• Support client communication and patient follow-up care
• Maintain clinical standards and practice hygiene across all areas
• Collaborate with the 3-strong RVN team and vets in a shared workload approach

Requirements

• Current RVN registration with the RCVS
• Strong clinical nursing skills and a practical, hands-on approach
• Experience in small animal practice (exotics experience a bonus)
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
