🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:6 weekend rota; up to 1 weeknight per week. Practice provides own out-of-hours service.

About the Role

You’ll join Wendover Park Equine Vets as a full-time Equine Veterinary Surgeon, working across first opinion and orthopaedic cases in a thriving practice nestled in the heart of the Chiltern Hills near Aylesbury. The clinic benefits from outstanding transport links to London and all major airports, making commuting straightforward, whilst the surrounding Wendover Woods provide a peaceful setting for lunch breaks and moments of calm between cases.

Your week runs over four days at 40 hours, with a shared 1:6 weekend rota and up to one weeknight per week on the practice’s own out-of-hours service—a manageable commitment in a supportive environment. You’ll work alongside six veterinary surgeons (including a DOP and CertAVP), four RVNs, and a dedicated office team, plus benefit from close collaboration with an on-site small animal practice that creates a friendly, sociable atmosphere.

The caseload is genuinely mixed, ranging from pony club ponies and amateur horses to competition animals and the occasional donkey. You’ll handle internal lameness referrals for in-clinic work-ups and be part of the ambulatory team, with regular access to travelling surgeons for additional expertise and learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide orthopaedic and first opinion care across the mixed equine caseload
  • Accept and manage internal lameness referrals from the veterinary team for in-clinic diagnostics and work-ups
  • Carry out ambulatory visits and field cases as part of the rotating ambulatory team
  • Utilise the clinic’s diagnostic equipment including x-ray, ultrasound, gastroscopes, endoscopes, and dental equipment
  • Contribute to a supportive team environment with ongoing knowledge-sharing and professional development
  • Participate in the shared out-of-hours rota (1:6 weekends, up to 1 weeknight per week)

Requirements

  • Qualified Equine Veterinary Surgeon
  • Strong interest in orthopaedics and lameness diagnosis
  • Orthopaedic/Diagnostic Imaging/Lameness Certificate (or currently working towards one, or keen to pursue)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and accept internal referrals
  • Willingness to participate in the shared rota system

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE, plus relocation allowance
  • Time Off: 6.6 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays, plus your birthday off
  • CPD & Learning: £1,250 CPD allowance plus 40 hours paid CPD time; Certificate and advanced learning support; Vetlexicon access; world-leading IVC Evidensia Training Centres; £1,250 annual Care Fund per vet
  • Professional Memberships: BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees covered
