Craving variety in your nursing? This role rotates across surgical, medical, and first opinion work—orthopaedics, soft tissue, diagnostics, imaging, and more. No two days the same, excellent facilities, and a supportive team of 6 RVNs and 3 clinicians.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:8 Saturday mornings; otherwise daytime hours 7:30 am–7:30 pm. Part-time and 4-day week arrangements are open to discussion.

About the Role

Abington Park Referrals is seeking a motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a dynamic, highly skilled referral team in Northampton. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives on variety—rather than being fixed in one specialty, you’ll rotate between surgical, medical, and first opinion departments, gaining broad exposure across orthopaedics, soft tissue, diagnostics, imaging, and internal medicine.

The role spans 40 hours weekly across 5 days, with shifts between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm, plus 1:8 Saturday mornings. Part-time and 4-day week arrangements are also considered. The state-of-the-art referral hospital is well-equipped with in-house laboratory facilities, CT and MRI imaging, and a dedicated lab technician supporting a consistently busy, diverse caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery and manage surgical kits across multiple disciplines
  • Assist in anaesthesia and recovery procedures in a busy surgical environment
  • Conduct and support advanced imaging including X-ray, CT, and MRI
  • Support consults and patient discharges, with evening shift responsibilities for late consults
  • Rotate across surgical and medical departments as well as first opinion when needed
  • Work within a surgical team of 6 RVNs and 3 clinicians handling referrals across the Midlands and beyond

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification
  • Keen interest in surgery and anaesthesia
  • Referral experience is ideal, but applications from all experience levels are welcome
  • Proactive approach to patient care and genuine enthusiasm for diagnostic imaging and advanced procedures
  • Ability to work flexibly across departments and thrive in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum
  • Leave: 6.6 weeks annual leave with additional birthday leave and increasing allowance based on length of service
  • CPD & Development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid study time, certificate support, access to the IVC Evidensia Academy, and Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia
  • Family-Friendly: Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and surrogacy pay
  • Health & Wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance, Cycle to Work scheme, discounted gym membership, non-accidental injury support
  • Professional Support: VDS cover, RCVS fees paid
  • Extras: Pawsome Benefits reward gateway with discounts and cashback, pension scheme, discounted staff pet care
  • Career Progression: Structured in-house progression plan and support for post-graduate studies; research funding available
