About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with genuine animal handling experience to begin your journey as a veterinary nurse in a welcoming, training-focused practice. You’ll combine practical clinic work with full support for your college studies, receiving hands-on coaching and guidance as you build your clinical skills and confidence. The role involves a rota pattern covering 8am–5pm or 10am–7pm shifts, with Saturday responsibilities on a 1:3 weekend rota.

Alcombe Veterinary Surgery is a small animal-focused practice in Whitton that values professional development and creates space for nursing team members to learn and grow. You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues who are invested in your development as a nurse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard nursing care across all clinic areas, including surgical nursing, inpatient care, and late duty shifts, adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Support veterinary surgeons during surgical and diagnostic procedures, including anaesthetic monitoring, intubation under veterinary direction, and maintaining strict aseptic technique in theatre
  • Perform routine nursing procedures: venepuncture, urine collection and analysis, skin scrapes, radiography, laboratory work, tube and drain maintenance, and medication administration
  • Maintain accurate patient and client records in electronic systems, including clinical notes, hospitalisation sheets, and anaesthetic monitoring forms
  • Communicate compassionately with clients about inpatient care and treatment plans, and assist with reception duties as needed
  • Uphold clinical hygiene standards by completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning protocols in line with practice procedures
  • Monitor and maintain clinical stock levels throughout your shift, reporting shortages to senior nursing staff
  • Engage in biannual appraisals and take active responsibility for your professional development
