About the Role
Blacks Vets is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their multi-award-winning team across five branches in the Dudley and West Midlands area. This full-time permanent role offers genuine variety—you'll work in a busy, well-equipped hospital handling complex referral cases, and split time running nurse clinics across smaller branch locations. With a manageable 1:4 weekend rota and TOIL, you'll have time to enjoy both the leafy countryside edge and the vibrant centre of Birmingham.
The practice is independently voted 'Best UK Vet' (twice), holds RCVS 'Wellbeing and Client Service' and 'Best Place to Work' awards, and was featured on Channel 4's The Interview and BBC2 Me and My Dog. This is a practice that invests in its people as seriously as it invests in patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care across all five branches, from routine first-opinion work to complex referral-level procedures
- Assist with advanced surgical and diagnostic procedures including orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, cardiology, and medicine cases
- Support use of state-of-the-art equipment: CT scanner, dedicated dental x-ray, referral-level ultrasound, NHS-level laboratory, endoscopes, and ICU incubators
- Run dedicated nurse clinics at branch locations, building client relationships and delivering preventative care
- Work within an advanced veterinary nursing niche—the team actively develops specialist skills and knowledge
- Contribute to a feline-friendly hospital environment (Gold Cat Friendly at Dudley; ISFM accredited branches)
Requirements
- Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
- Experience in a busy first-opinion and/or referral practice
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with specialist-qualified vets and nurses
- Flexibility to rotate across five branch locations
- Strong communication skills for both clinical work and client interaction

The nursing team includes certificate holders in cardiology, medicine, surgery, dermatology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. Facilities include a CT scanner, dedicated dental x-ray unit, referral-level ultrasound scanner with dedicated scanning room, NHS-level laboratory, seven top-of-the-range endoscopes, multiple ICU incubators, piped oxygen, and feline-friendly kennels and cattery with underfloor heating.
