Emergency OOH Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Blaise Veterinary Referrals is looking for a veterinary surgeon with a passion for ECC to join its OOH team on a 4 on, 4 off rota. Shift times vary across days, nights and twilight shifts, and you will also commit to a minimum of 4 bank holidays per year and 2 weekends per month, averaging 22 hours per week.

You will be working within a welcoming, knowledgeable clinical team, supporting emergency care and inpatient care alongside an ECC vet. The caseload is varied and rewarding, with OOH services provided to local clinics.

The hospital is based in Longbridge, West Midlands, with easy access from the A38 and a location within the West Longbridge regeneration project. Blaise Referrals is part of Inspiring Vet Care and describes itself as one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver emergency out of hours veterinary care across a 4 on, 4 off rota.
• Work across day, night and twilight shifts.
• Consult and care for inpatients alongside the ECC vet.
• Provide OOH services to local clinics.
• Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to support patient and client care.
• Share clinical knowledge and contribute to the development of colleagues.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree and RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
• Experience working out of hours.
• Growing confidence in seeing emergency cases.
• Strong communication skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
• A proactive approach to learning and openness to feedback.
• Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Blaise Veterinary Referrals offers a 24/7 emergency and referral service. It is described as a large-scale, multi-disciplinary, specialist-led referral hospital that includes disciplines such as Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Soft Tissue and Anaesthesia.
