Full Time
Shared OOH
Ready to join a practice where nursing really matters? Bramble & Bear is a forward-thinking independent clinic with state-of-the-art facilities, a supportive team, and a 4-day week with genuinely manageable OOH—this is the RVN role that lets you fully use your skills.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Shared OOH rota; typically 1–2 advice calls per week. Home-based on-call when no inpatients; only attend practice if needed.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Bramble & Bear’s growing nursing team in their brand-new, purpose-built Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre—a facility designed to support the best possible patient and client care. This is a practice that genuinely values nursing expertise: you’ll move beyond routine tasks to run comprehensive nurse clinics, manage hands-on inpatient care, handle anaesthesia, and get involved in rehabilitation work. Whether you’re interested in pursuing a certificate qualification or exploring specialist areas, the team actively encourages your professional growth.

Working a 4-day week (either 7:30 am–4:30 pm or 11 am–8:30 pm), you’ll benefit from a refreshingly manageable approach to out-of-hours cover. Thanks to the practice’s daytime free consultation model, OOH commitments are typically just one or two advice calls per week. If there are no inpatients, you can be on-call from home and only attend if needed—a far cry from constant overnight pressure.

The practice is set in the idyllic Staffordshire Moorlands with countryside access, walking, cycling, and nearby attractions including the Roaches, Tittesworth Reservoir, and easy reach to Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive inpatient nursing care across two fully equipped theatres, a dedicated dental suite, and separate cat and dog wards
  • Support anaesthesia for a varied caseload, including emergency and critical care cases
  • Run nurse clinics independently and develop specialist clinical interests (e.g., feline nursing, rehabilitation)
  • Contribute to rehabilitation services including underwater treadmill, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy support
  • Engage with a large, varied caseload in a teaching-focused environment that values mentoring and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with a team of 3 RVNs, 1 SVN, and two founder vets (Matt and Hannah) who are pursuing ECC certificates

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Passion for nursing and commitment to high-standard patient care
  • Ability to work as part of a small, collaborative team
  • Openness to learning and professional development (certificates/specialist interests supported)

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £28,000–£34,000 depending on experience
  • 5.6 weeks’ holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Uncapped CPD budget with certificates fully funded and supported
  • Professional fees paid (RCVS & VDS membership)
  • Bupa private healthcare cover
  • 4-day working week with manageable 1:5+ OOH rota (mostly home-based on-call)
  • Access to a purpose-built Hospital with DR X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, and dedicated Rehab Centre
  • Team social events and access to farm shop and café on-site

About the Practice

Bramble & Bear is an independent, owner-run small animal practice founded by experienced vets Dr Matt Bayliss MRCVS and Dr Hannah Brooks MRCVS just over three years ago. The practice began as a mobile clinic and has since grown into a comprehensive facility: starting with a fully equipped mobile surgical unit, opening a first hub in the Staffordshire Moorlands in September 2023, and now operating a brand-new Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre (opened 2024). Fear-Free accredited, the practice prioritises stress-free environments with separate cat and dog wards, outdoor recovery space, and a rehabilitation facility featuring underwater treadmill and hydrotherapy.

The team currently includes Head RVN Anna (with a certificate in feline nursing), 3 RVNs, 1 SVN, and regular visits from an orthopaedic surgeon. The founders are hands-on and passionate about mentoring: Matt completed a teaching degree and actively supports new graduates and developing nurses. The practice is an accredited nurse training facility, operates 24/7 with in-house imaging and surgery capability for most cases, and offers free daytime consultations and transparent, fixed-cost pricing. Located on a working farm with adjacent farm shop and café, the setting provides a peaceful, integrated work environment.
