About the Role
This is a fixed-term maternity cover opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon at Byre Veterinary Surgery in Peterborough. You will be joining a friendly team in a busy first-opinion small animal and exotics practice, with the role offered for 12 months or until the substantive post holder returns, whichever comes sooner. There may also be scope to extend on a month-by-month basis if business needs require it.
The position is part-time, with the working pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate. Saturday morning rota participation is required, and you should be comfortable with occasional sole charge on those mornings.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver first-opinion veterinary care across a varied small animal and exotics caseload.
- Carry out consultations and routine surgical procedures with confidence.
- Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to support patient and client care.
- Contribute to the clinical culture of the practice and support colleagues in their development.
- Take part in the Saturday morning rota and manage occasional sole charge on those shifts.
Requirements
- Veterinary degree and registration, or eligibility to register, with the RCVS.
- At least two years of clinical experience.
- Confidence with consultations and routine surgical procedures.
- Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, reliable approach.
- An interest in surgery and dentistry would be advantageous.

Byre Veterinary Surgery is an RCVS accredited small animal practice in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The practice has been established since 1990 and relocated to its current site in 2003.
